BUNDABERGNOW - Aquatic Weed Field Day

Taking on Aquatic Weeds with Drone Technology
The Bundaberg Regional Council recently hosted an Aquatic Weeds Field Day in Avondale to share innovative management tools with local landowners. One of the most effective solutions showcased at the event was the use of an advanced agricultural drone to tackle invasive water weeds located in dams, rivers, and creeks.
Protecting Catchments and Downstream Environments
Protecting the local environment and catchment areas is a critical step for the community, as weed issues that begin upstream can negatively impact downstream riverine environments and eventually reach the ocean. Traditionally, dense aquatic weeds choke the rivers, making it too difficult to navigate through them with a boat. However, utilizing a modern spray drone provides far better access by flying at a low level to reach these completely inaccessible areas.
Precision Mapping and Herbicide Application
These innovative farming drones offer a highly effective management tool for property owners. Not only do the drones accurately map the affected areas, but they also deliver the herbicide chemical very accurately to the targeted weeds. As practical ag drones become more widely used for environmental maintenance, they are proving to be an essential method for controlling invasive species and keeping regional waterways healthy.
