CGTN Europe - Chinese Drone Developer XAG in Action to Help UK Farming

XAG, a Guangzhou-based company, has officially taken flight in the UK. The drone developer recently secured the first and only license from UK aviation authorities to operate spreading and spraying drones on local farms. With regulations for chemical spraying expected to be finalized within months, the industry is preparing for a massive shift.
Currently, there are only ten of these agricultural drones operating in the UK, but XAG estimates this number will surge to 1,000 within three years. A recent PwC report highlights the immense potential of this technology, noting that agricultural drones could save companies billions of dollars, significantly reduce carbon emissions, and create 650,000 new jobs by 2030. These battery-operated machines are stepping in to perform tasks traditionally done by massive diesel tractors, effectively keeping heavy equipment off the roads and reducing fuel consumption.
To meet this growing demand, Harper Adams University has partnered with XAG to train new drone operators through a mandatory week-long course. XAG views its success in the UK as a gateway to expanding into other major agricultural markets in Western Europe, including France and Germany. Co-founder Justin Gong notes that the next generation of these farming robots will be even smarter and more efficient, allowing farmers to operate them seamlessly alongside traditional machinery.
