Autonomous Farming Drones Demonstrated in Molong
A Hands-On Look at the Future of Agriculture Drone technology is advancing at a blistering rate, significantly changing how farmers manage their properties. A recent hands-on demonstration outside of Molong showcased exactly how practical farming drones have become for everyday operations. The event attracted a wide range of attendees, from local growers and councils to spray contractors from further out west, all looking for a chance to see the equipment in action on-farm.
Unmatched Precision with Spray Drones The demonstration highlighted the impressive capabilities of autonomous systems. A scouting drone can fly independently to identify weeds on the property. It then communicates the locations to a larger spray drone, which flies out to target those specific weeds entirely on its own.
Property owner Ben Watts noted that the precision of this agricultural drone technology is exceptional. The accuracy achieved by the drone is actually better than what can be accomplished by hand. Operators simply turn on the drone, assign a job using a smart device, and let the machine handle the rest.
Accessible and Reliable Ag Drones While early consumer-based models could cost between $20,000 and $50,000 and were often unreliable, today's ag drones are far more accessible and dependable. Matt Lees from Eagle AG emphasized that the benefits are undeniable, stating that anyone running a broadacre farm would be "crazy not to have a drone" due to the immense advantages they provide.
