Expanding AgTech in the Wide Bay Region

The agricultural industry is becoming increasingly competitive, placing significant pressure on growers to achieve more with fewer resources. To address this challenge, the Hinkler AgTech Initiative was launched with $5 million in federal and local government funding to help Wide Bay farmers enhance their everyday practices. After three years of operation, the initiative has successfully completed 52 trials involving more than 40 agribusinesses and 35 technology providers.

Showcasing the Future of Farming

A recent two-day showcase in Bundaberg was held to encourage more farmers to try robots, farming drones, and other new technologies. Industry representatives at the event highlighted that technology is the way of the future, as it is necessary to free up resources and continue adding value to the agricultural sector. Utilizing a reliable agricultural drone or an automated spray drone directly addresses this growing need for efficiency by allowing operators to cover more ground with incredible precision.

High Adoption Rates Among Local Growers

Organizers have declared the initiative a great success, proving the region is ripe for agricultural innovation. Moving forward, more than 70 percent of Wide Bay farmers are expected to adopt technologies from these trials, with many focusing specifically on pest and disease control. By integrating practical ag drones and automated systems into the field, Bundaberg is taking a massive step forward in establishing itself as a highly vibrant agtech ecosystem.
